As part of the construction of the Sessa 15-24 photovoltaic installation, commissioned by Eco Sicily 8 S.r.l., ArcheoServizi carried out preventive archaeological investigations between May 2024 and January 2025 to assess the area’s archaeological potential.
In one of the evaluation trenches, an ancient kiln was identified approximately 0.83 metres below ground level. Its surviving upper structure, with clear traces of heat-affected clay, has a maximum diameter of approximately 1.90 metres. At its centre is the combustion chamber, cut directly into the natural substrate.
The documented evidence indicates occupation from the Republican period and places the abandonment and infilling of the structure by the end of the third century BC, expanding our understanding of production activities and settlements in the ancient Ager Campanus.
